Book news
LRPD has been out for over a month now and I’ve been delighted by sales—and interest in signed copies! I’ve sent out over 100 signed copies (most with Deacon’s signature as well). Oh, and the two books from the giveaways are headed out to their new owners (naturally both winners were from outside the US; I made a calculated decision not to put limits on the giveaway but man am I bad at math) 😂. I can’t thank everyone enough for their support. For those of you asking how you can continue to help LRPD reach new (non-fandom) audiences, you can:
Request LRPD at your Library! (simple, free, gets it on physical and digital shelves and into suggestion algorithms and in front of new eyes)
Write a review! It doesn’t have to be long. You can review it on Goodreads, Amazon, or the website where you purchased your copy.
Post about it! On any social media you please. IG. Tiktok. Tumblr. FB. (and tag me, if you don’t mind!)
I had several requests on Tumblr for a walk-through of the cover design process and I am happy to oblige:
For LRPD I wanted to commission a fan artist which, thankfully, @Jick fit the bill.
I messaged Jick with deets about the book and sent this truly beautiful rendering of my idea:
Which Jick turned into:
It then, of course, eventually became this:
We just finalized the cover for book 2 and that process started with me sending an even more terrible draft:
Which Jick, with legendary talent, returned as:
Which now looks like:
I 10/10 do recommend working with an illustrator. Also, we are on track for LYNLTP to come out in the late spring of next year!
Real Life News
I continue to love my new job. I miss teaching, but I really enjoy the research and presentation aspects of working in technical presales (not to mention the paycheck and ability to work remotely!). I’m so happy I made the transition, even though it was scary to change professional industries after putting so many years of effort into academia. I will say that my English Lit/Communications skills have definitely benefitted me—don’t let anyone tell you humanities are worthless in the “real world”
Travel News
B and I recently returned from our annual trip rockclimbing in Tensleep WY and we had a glorious time.
And that’s it for now! I’m working on a new project but I won’t be sharing anything about it until after Christmas 👀.
No recs this time because I’ve been so busy I haven’t actually been reading! (horrifying, I know). I have been keeping up with the new season of Bake Off though.
Oh, and happy (belated) bi day of visibility. Here I am, being visible.
Ok love yall bye!
I Just finished Like Real People Do. I loved it. When I got to the end I just couldn't believe it. I wanted more and immediately headed to the internet to see if there were other books, guess I'll have to wait lol. It's difficult to find LGBTQ romance books that aren't...well, very very adult. It was refreshing to read a novel that starts the relationship a bit more innocently. Thank you for that.
