Captain's Log. Stardate 75224.5
Hello friends!
I’m still figuring out how this works so please bear with me.
Book News:
Like Real People Do (slated for publication May 2022) has a cover and a blurb. Feast your eyes:
Nineteen-year-old hockey phenom Alexander Price is the youngest-ever captain in the NHL. With a polarizing social media presence and a predilection for dirty play, he typifies the stereotype of young, out-of-control athlete. But away from the cameras, Alex is a kid with an anxiety disorder and the expectations of an expansion franchise on his shoulders. And maybe he tries too hard to fit the part of asshole playboy, but it’s better than the alternative; in his line of work, gay is the punchline of an insult, not something he can be.
Eighteen-year-old vlogger Elijah Rodriguez is a freshman in college recovering from an injury that derailed his Olympic figure-skating dreams. Mixed-race, disabled, and out of the closet since he was fourteen, Eli is unapologetically himself. He has no qualms about voicing his disapproval of celebrity jocks who make homophobic jokes on Twitter and park their flashy cars in the handicapped spaces outside of ice rinks.
After an antagonistic introduction, Alex and Eli’s inexplicable friendship both baffles and charms the internet. But navigating relationships is hard enough for normal teenagers. It’s a lot harder when the world—much of it disapproving—is watching you fall in love with your best friend.
I’ve officially finished initial edits on LRPD and started initial edits on book two (tentatively titled “Like You’ve Nothing Left to Lose) (shoutout to Hozier yet again). It will come out between 6-8 months after LRPD provided things stay on track (I’ve met all my deadlines so far!). Very exciting stuff.
Fic News:
I’m still (slowly) updating my Mandalorian and Old Guard fic. Apologies for the truly indolent progress. Thanks for your patience while I deal with Real Life Stuff.
Real Life News:
Doing copyediting and ghostwriting professionally while also trying to write original and fan fiction is uh…not working. By the time I’m finished with work-writing I’m all worded out and have no desire to keep staring at a computer screen for fun writing. So I’ve been attempting to find a new non-writing-related job. I’m very hopeful about one (4th and potentially final interview is next week!) that would give me a lot more writing time. So fingers crossed! Please send prayers or good vibes or money cat memes or whatever.
Travel News:
Over the last few weeks, I camped, rock climbed, and visited the beach. I drove many miles. I saw many things. I peed in the woods. It was magnificent.
Deacon News:
The Good Boy remains good. He can still hang with the younger dogs while adventuring, but he sleeps a lot longer once he gets home these days. His ninth birthday is next month and he’s starting to get grey hairs on his chin. A dapper gentleman!
Ok, that’s it for now. See you next month!
The End
