Hi friends! It has been a hot minute. Apologies. I crammed several significant life events into the last several months (eloping, planning a reception, buying a house, moving across the country) all while I was working full-time AND trying to finish Breakaway book four AND starting to work on a new project that shall go undiscussed for a bit, and then also writing fic and trying to maintain social relationships and exercising and giving Deacon the best retirement possible. So some things (Substack is things) fell to the wayside.
But I am back! This will be a post entirely about our Elopement. I have a couple of other posts planned to get you up to speed on recent life events including our Reception, Moving to Denver, Bike Heist Weekend, Upcoming Book/Fic/other Writing Updates, and then several House Renovations. If you know me, you know I love thrifting, DIY, and power tools, so even though we bought a “move-in ready” new-build house in Denver, I have projects planned for every room of the house, naturally. My current project involves lots of cedar wood and a nail gun. Whee.
Anyway, without further ado. Let’s talk about Marriage.
B and I elected to go somewhere neither of us had been before to elope. We chose Mt. Rainier. We rented an A-frame less than a mile from the national park entrance, hiked to the top of a mountain, and with just Deacon as our witness, read each other our vows, cried on each other, and hiked back down. I also surprised B with a hand-bound book of poetry I’d written for/about him over the last two years titled “Declarations of Affection and Other Existential Horrors.” A_gay_old_time_bindery created it for me after making a one-time exception to their “I don’t do commissions” rule and I cannot thank them enough (they’re also the one who made that gorgeous bound version of Way Down We Go).
Anyhow, the next day we hiked up a different mountain and took pictures in our wedding finery, and then we spent the next two days exploring the park and enjoying our A-frame and letting Deacon smell all the things (I also read several books!).
So here’s a gallery of our cabin/the base of the mountain:
And our ascent/the top of the mountain:
And because ostensibly I’m here to talk about my writing, lets take a moment for my poetry/vow book, which really did turn out beautiful and B loved it and keeps it at his desk now, which is the important bit.
When we returned home, my parents threw us a little backyard reception which included axe throwing, a bounce house, lawn games, and a whole lot of delicious food and drink. I’ll make a post about that in a few days.
Okay! You are all caught up on elopoment things. See you soon :)
The pictures are stunning! Congratulations! Also hyped to hear about bike heist weekend!
Loved the update, congrats on the marriage and cannot WAIT to hear about bike heist weekend!!!
