Hello friends!
First, several folks requested that I start including book/fic recs in my monthly newsletter; so let’s start with that.
Recs:
Nonfiction: Open, Delusions of Gender, Brave
Fiction: Gideon the Ninth, The Martian
Fic: Denmark’s New Groove (for the lols), Away Childish Things (for the feels), and More Like the Man You Were Meant to Be (for the people still bitter about that GOT ending).
Book News:
LRPD is still on track for a May 2022 release and book two—tentatively called Like You’ve Nothing Left to Prove (Shout out to Hozier yet again)— is slated for November/December 2022. I’m currently working on edits for the latter and very excited about some new additions (more Stanley Cup Finals content and a very fluffy epilogue). Speaking of. If you read the original version: Would you rather have an epilogue set in the Dominican Republic visiting Abuela after playoffs, The Proposal, or a general domestic check-in a year or two later? I haven’t decided yet. I may just write all three and let my editor pick which one she thinks is best.
Fic News:
Still (slowly) working away on Mandalorian and Old Guard stuff. Should finish the Old Guard fic this month and hopefully get back to an every-other-week schedule (maybe weekly next year?) with Din and Co. We’ll see. Thanks for your patience!
Real-Life News:
I got a new job—teaching high school English here in Austin! If you follow me on Tumblr or AO3 you can expect Student Hijinks stories again once the semester starts. I’m growing out my hair (and being very graceful about it, I assure you), I attended a wedding (the first since Covid started),
and I’ve been DIYing some things around the house, as usual. Check out the before and after on this dresser that I found secondhand:
And I made this painting for above the bed:
I’ve also been climbing, reading, and spending time with friends/family over the holidays (all vaccinated; stay safe!).
Travel News:
Because of Covid/Life Things, I haven’t done much travel in the last two months but I did manage quite a bit of hiking/climbing/camping.
We even took a long weekend camping trip to the Wichita Mountains, which was excellent. Some people may say that a pop-up roof tent with a memory foam mattress, solar power, a refrigerator, and a stove, isn’t “camping,” but it’s my version, anyway. Peep my tiny traveling library. It includes some of the books rec’d above!
We also visited St. Louis to see my partner’s family and Enchanted Rock for my mother’s birthday.
Deacon News:
The Good Boy is nine! Truly a dapper old gentleman. He managed to cut both his front feet while playing fetch a few weeks back, and to keep him from chewing on his bandages, he had to wear socks for a couple of days. He was thrilled.
But he’s all better now and enjoying the gorgeous weather here in Texas (it won’t last long, I’m sure).
Ok, that’s it for now. Love y’all!
Proposal on the beach while visiting his abuela as a flashback during the 1-2 year domestic check in
I vote for "general domestic check-in"!
